Water heater warning signs worth checking
Less hot water does not automatically mean you need a replacement. A change in demand, a control problem or a maintenance issue can affect performance. Write down what changed and whether your heater is a tank or tankless model before arranging service.
Three things to watch for
- Visible moisture: water near the heater could come from a connection, another pipe or the heater itself. Have the source checked.
- Changing temperature: note whether the issue affects all fixtures or just one, and when it happens.
- New sounds or error codes: record the code or describe the sound rather than repeatedly resetting the unit.
Repair or replacement?
Avoid opening electrical compartments or adjusting gas components. Keep clear of hot discharge water. A plumber can inspect the heater, explain the fault and discuss appropriate options. Learn about tank and tankless water heater service, or explore heat pump water heaters if you are considering an electric alternative. Sizing, installation requirements and your household's hot-water use all matter.
